Intel's flagship Arc Alchemist graphics card surprised with performance in the first gaming test, but it's too early to draw conclusions

Intel’s future flagship discrete graphics accelerator of the Arc Alchemist series was first noted in the gaming test. Almost all of the latest-generation hardware innovations are first shown in the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark database. The Intel graphics card is no exception.

The card was tested in a system based on Intel Core i9-12900K with 32 GB of RAM. For testing, the graphics settings were selected “Medium_1080p”, the resolution is 1920 × 1080 pixels and the DirectX 12 mode. In the graphics test, the video card showed a result of 126.9 frames per second. According to the report, the performance of the Intel graphics card is at the level of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which refutes earlier rumors that the older Arc Alchemist video card will compete with such accelerator models as the GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti.

Unfortunately, the Ashes of the Singularity gaming test cannot be taken as a standard. Too many different factors associated with a particular system (for example, the same overclocking of components) can affect the final result of checking its performance in a given benchmark. That is why in the table of results you can see a picture when the Radeon RX 5700 from 2019 bypasses the obviously much more powerful and new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in performance.

From a performance comparison point of view, these results are not significant. However, the appearance of the card in the gaming benchmark indirectly means that Intel is adhering to the development schedule and still intends to introduce the Arc Alchemist family of accelerators in early 2022, as promised earlier.

According to the latest rumors, the flagship Arc Alchemist graphics card will receive a 32-core GPU based on the Xe-HPG architecture . Each of these cores will contain 16 vector engines. Thus, their total number will be 512 pieces. Intel itself has previously confirmed that Alchemist graphics cards will offer hardware support for ray tracing, Mesh Shading technology , and will also receive up to 16 independent matrix engines per graphics core to accelerate AI computing.
