McDonald’s has filed for registration of 10 trademarks related to the virtual world. The company wanted to open its own restaurant in the metaverse – you can buy food online, and get it offline with home delivery.
McDonald’s’ has filed 10 new trademark applications with the US Patent Office, including McDonald’s and McCafe, Business Insider writes .
One of the trademarks is for the sale of virtual food and beverages, the other is for the management of a virtual restaurant with home delivery. In addition, McDonald’s applications also include hosting virtual online concerts.
According to trademark lawyer Josh Gerben, registering the marks will allow McDonald’s to protect its idea in the metaverse and sell both real and virtual food.
The US trademark application process takes eight to nine months.
