Valve is developing SteamOS 3.0 to launch with its upcoming handheld Steam Deck with a redesigned interface.
The latest SteamOS image 20211120.2 shows a dramatic reduction in the total file size from 24 GB to 10 GB for the operating system, giving users an additional 14 GB of usable space for games and applications. Valve has also improved Wi-Fi performance, fixed HDMI output, improved touchscreen reliability, and released updated kernel drivers for audio, GPU, and other components. These changes will make a big difference, especially for the entry-level Steam Deck, which has only 64GB of internal storage. The Steam Deck is expected to be available from February 2022.
