The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not have time to make a decision about the act of Will Smith at the Oscars . The actor said that he himself was leaving the ranks of the Academy and was ready to accept any additional punishment that the academics would appoint.
Smith announced his resignation two days after the Academy announced a disciplinary case against the actor for violating its standards of conduct. Her representatives said that after the “Oscar” slap in the face, Smith was informally asked to leave the ceremony, but he refused. Presumably no one asked for his resignation.
Chris Rock, whose joke led to the scandal, had previously refused to file a lawsuit against the actor. When it became known that the Academy would ask for the resignation of Will Smith, he turned to the leadership with a request not to aggravate an already difficult situation.
